Effectiveness of an Educational Video in Improving Oral Health Knowledge (Study at UniversitasMuhammadiyah Yogyakarta Dental Hospital)

Background : In a dental treatment, we needs to inform and educate patients about the dental procedure and how to maintain oral health after a dental procedure. An educational video will be easier to understand and remember since the information is presented through pictures and sounds. Purpose : To assess the effectiveness of an educational video in improving oral health knowledge in UMY dental hospital. Results : The interview results revealed that the content of education video was about how to maintain oral health after scaling, brush teeth and frequency of brushing, good food for dental health, suggestions for gargling after eating, and the use of dental floss. The mean increase in pre-test and post-test scores in control group was 0.625(±0.822), while intervention group was 0.98(±1.243), with statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). Conclusion : The use of educational video in imparting oral health education in the hospital setting could be an effective tool to improve oral health knowledge.
