A Systemic Functional Linguistic Study of Jordanain Student’s Writing

Résumé

A Systemic Linguistic study is conducted on a randomly selected essay writings of student’s in a Jordanian University. This study assess these essays based on the four component of the Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) which are Context, Semantics, Lexicogrammatical, and Phonology. The study observed that social factors play a role in the language choice, grammar, and structure of a writer or speaker. From the study it was observed that the omission of relative clauses in Arab has influenced the omission of relative clauses of students in their essay writing.
